Friday Night Lights

Just a few random, football-related thoughts tonight...

It's football time in Tennessee.

*
In our family we are big fans of high school football.
GO EAGLES!!!

*
This was the first time in 3 years that Ren wasn't on the field carrying a case of water bottles.  She missed it.  A lot.

*
It was odd for her dad and me, too, to have her in the bleachers with us and not see her in an extra jersey - always in the opposite color of whatever the guys were wearing - with her hair in pigtails and her traditional ribbons.  And then to look around and see some of last year's senior players sitting in the bleachers, too...a little sad.   It seems like just yesterday we were watching them play in middle school while Ren just walked around the perimeter of the fence with friends, not paying much attention to the game at all.  Where does the time go?  It reminded me of a quote by Ben Franklin..."You may delay, but time will not."  No matter how much we want to keep our children young, time marches on and takes us all with it.

*
Ren can do spot-on impersonations of her former coaches.  She does it with love, though, as she thinks the world of them all.

*
The fact that John is an AP has its perks - even at away games.  Usually, we get to enter through a "pass gate" and are extended the courtesy of attending free.

*
John-Heath usually makes up for what we save in admission with purchases at the concession stand.

*
He was quite disappointed tonight due to the fact that snow cones were not sold.

*
After a very hard fought, down to the wire, 7-zip game, our boys are 1 & 0 with 9 to go.

Here's to the weekend!

P.S.  I had to come back and edit this post just a bit.  When I mentioned Ren walking around the perimeter of the fence in middle school while we watched the game I was a bit mistaken.  She did do this as a 7th grader.  In 8th grade, however, she was on the sidelines as a cheerleader.  Talk about going against one's grain.  I made her try out and she was not a very happy camper.  God knows I love her, but she just doesn't have what one would describe as a perky attitude.  But, as she would be the first to point it out, she was raised by me.

Just attended a pre-season high school game last night. I know exactly how you feel about time flying by! It just gives me a lump in my throat to know how fast they move through school - and life!

Great post!
