Now We Are Six

Now We Are Six

A.A. Milne

When I was one,
I had just begun.

When I was two,
I was nearly new.

When I was three,
I was hardly me.

When I was four,
I was not much more.

When I was five,
I was just alive.

But now I am six,
I'm as clever as clever.
So I think I'll be six
now and forever.

Happy birthday to my little boy - the sweetest, most mischievous little boy I know.

P.S.
Dear John-Heath,
Just so you'll know, the little yellow outfit you're wearing in your baby picture was made for your grandfather, John, by his grandmother, Martha Magnolia B. At the time you wore it, it was 76 years old.
